Continuing Legal Education
This committee plans an average of 5-7, ½ day CLE programs for the bar year (June 1 – May 31) on varying topics of interest to all members of the JCBA. You contact/arrange for topics, speakers, etc. Most of the logistics & specifics are handled by the JCBA office staff and coordinated with you, etc.
Bar Journal Editorial Committee –
This committee assists the Editor and Executive Director in publishing the Jefferson County Bar Journal. The charge is to solicit legal articles for the publication. This committee also assists the Executive Director with annual ad sales for the publication. Each year, ads are solicited in Oct-Jan for the following year’s publications.
Client Attorney Assistance Program
This committee reviews all request made to the CAAP and attempts to mediate a solution between the individual and the attorney. This committee does not handle grievances.
This committee is responsible for all “special projects” the JCBA adopts – such as The Pipeline Project, IEA Youth Service Day, High School Career Days, Pro Bono projects, Teen Court, Legal Clinics, etc.
This committee plans all the social activities of the JCBA such as the annual holiday party, Law Olympics, happy hours, judicial swearing in ceremonies, etc.
Law Day / Ceremony
This committee is chaired by the JCBA President and plans the annual Law Day ceremony, Bar Party, etc.
Law Day / Speech & Poster Contest
The President-Elect chairs this committee and is responsible for organizing the Law Day Speech & Poster contest – coordinating with the local schools and securing judges for both contests, etc.
This committee is responsible for overseeing the annual membership drive. Most membership efforts are covered by the JCBA staff, but sometime require committee members to write letters, make phone calls, etc. to help with membership numbers. The JCBA member year runs from July 1 – June 30.
Review bylaws, draft amendments or recommendations for changes upon request of the JCBA Board of Directors, etc.
This committee oversees and determines content, layout and administration of the association’s website.
Lawyer Referral Service (Standing Committee)
This committee is a standing committee that handles any issues arriving from the JCBA Lawyer Referral Service.
Law Practice Assistance Program (LPAC) osed Committee
This committee is a standing committee that handles any issues arriving regarding assumption of practices, etc.
Teen Court (Standing Committee)
This committee is a standing committee and composed by the Teen Court Board. They administer, review and oversee the Evelyn M. Lord Teen Court operations.
Pro Bono Advisory (Standing Committee)
This committee is a standing committee that handles any issues surrounding the Pro Bono Program and concentrates on developing new programs and service to advance pro bono efforts in Southeast Texas
